Yeahhhh, about those mammals. As I have shared on the toku trivia thread previously apparently it was a design decision. In its early development phase they were gonna have a stegosaurus and a brachiosaurus but because they wanted to make it "distinct" from each other and did not want the helmet designs to overlap they chose the two mammals. Honestly I am unsure and a bit dumbfounded how they came to that conclusion but... yep.
I think what they should have done to mitigate this fiasco was to change the Kyoryu to Kodai meaning Ancient.
