With OOO a lot of that probably was supposed to happen. Most of that show's original plans were scrapped during filming and everything went in a completely different direction. The big change was that Date wasn't going to be around for most of the series, but the character and actor were such a surprise hit the story was changed to keep him around.

A lot of obvious changes were implemented. I think 2 of the GREEDS receive their flowers, but return later on. I was disappointed that there was no bigger hidden motive behind cake boss and the summer movie didn't really cover the core medals origin as originally planned. If we're talking about "what if" I wonder how Hibiki and Go-buster would have ended without the retool during their mid season. Also, I think the key female taking days off from the show really screw up the tight schedule like Kabuto, Den-O, and Wizard's storyline since they're suppose to have a huge storyline before the final episodes.
