I forgot to mention an important detail, Heisei Generations is set after episode 10, but it actually has plot revelations about the show that don't get addressed in the story proper until much later in the show (one of them around episodes 15-18, one other thing we don't learn about until episode 29). It wasn't a problem for those of us who were watching the show as it aired since we only got the movie after all that stuff happened, but I honestly can't say whether watching the movie before these things are "properly" revealed in the show is the best choice or not.

I haven't actually watched the movie yet myself, I just know these things happen. It may be worth holding off on it, but it's up to you.
