I don't have a significant over, but I can tell you my experience with friends that are also nerds, geeks, or anime lover/watches. And the comment I tend to get back is the usually "So like power rangers?", I try to break the ice, by saying it's not like it at all. I start by explaining that power rangers original source material is Super Sentai, and the people who makes Super Sentai also makes Kamen Rider, and I explain them the difference between the two. With all that said, some might have some interest others are just like "Meh, lame". I have two good friends that I convinced to watch Kamen Rider, and they're excited to but I've been lazy due to giving them the files. One of them wants to watch Gaim due to how the suit looks, the other was really intrigued by Ex-Aids designs.

I think with any other hobbies it takes time to break the ice, and let people know it's different and what you enjoyed. My parents knows I like and accept Kamen Rider and Power rangers are two different things, my brothers they know about it due to me watching it, but does not go anywhere near it. At first I was made fun of it for liking KR a lot, but eventually it just grew on everyone around me, and now they think it's the norm if I bring up Kamen Rider.
