It's a cultural thing. You'll notice there aren't nearly as many sword-focused games coming out of the states either.

The concept of the gun, a weapon that almost completely levels the playing field between people, regardless of strength, age, gender, etc. is almost offensive to many cultures. The idea that, say, the lowest peasant could kill the highest lord with a single pull of the trigger...

Well, there was a reason the Japanese aristocracy tried so damn hard to keep guns out of their country.
