People didn't want PR in Disney's hands because Disney didn't even want it, and it showed, while in comparison, when Nick got it, they advertised the hell out of it, showing that they care about the property.
Turns out, with Disney's more lax interest in the property, they got to put out...Passable seasons, while Nick's strangle hold approach means each season is kind of crap.

PR just can't catch a break

From what i heard it was someone on WF's production team that convinced Disney to keep it as a cheap way for them to break into the boys' demographic market something they desperately wanted to do at the time.
