It ruined the "world building" aspect of it (ie: everyone in the same world). With RPM being so drastically and obviously different than the rest of the franchise, fans who wanted that world building claimed it obviously ruined Power Rangers because there was no way to connect it to the rest of Power Rangers.
Fans also believe Disney wanted to kill Power Rangers the second they got it. While there is truth to the fact that Disney was fine to let it run in syndication after Wild Force, they obviously had interest in its potential success or they would have never green-lit a production in New Zealand.
However, Disney wasn't a fan of having to work with, or under, TOEI regulation/stipulation/oversight, and it eventually led to the frustration that caused Disney to choose to cancel producing new seasons after RPM. We've learned through examination of Toy Fair 2011, prior to Saban's announcement of purchasing the franchise back, that Bandai had plans to adapt Shinkenger toys to Power Rangers.
The same fans that claimed Disney was the downfall of Power Rangers now claim Saban Brands is once again the downfall of Power Rangers, and I feel it's buried in resentment that once again, the franchise has abandoned world-building in exchange for "each season is a new world/universe". It's a creative choice that allows the opportunity not to create continuity conflict (ie: dinosaurs being alive, or people not remembering/knowing how the world was nearly destroyed a handful of times in various season finales).
We'll see what Beast Morphers gives us in the sense of world-building, but all should know, the team behind the show is not changing and has already begun pre-production on Beast Morphers.
Which is funny because Sentai doesn't really do that normally. The real exceptions are Denjiman and Sun Vulcan, with Queen Hedran being in both of them. And of course Gokaigar. But for the others, outside the crossover movies they are treated like they are in their own little universes.

Lost Galaxy. And it's true they did loosen up a lot on that. Course you also had the issue of the Z-Wave wiping out most evil in the universe. First few shows after In Space actually worked around it a bit.
And there's another issue when you have the shared setting. Why don't the guys from previous shows help out? Sure there's a lot of cases where they lose their powers and gear... Then get them back for the crossover. Not to mention why does every team always end up recruiting new people? Why don't they ever recruit some of those experienced rangers to fill the ranks? When Zordon needed a sixth ranger he got Tommy who had experience, and when they needed a Gold Ranger they first tried Billy, and when that didn't work went and got Jason back. And that's before we get into the question of why the teams that do get to keep their powers never show up to help when the next set of aliens show up and start wrecking the place.
It's good to have the worldbuilding, and yet at the same time it raises it's own issues, and the creators might wonder if it's worth it when most of the audience are kids that aren't going to care in a few years.
