It can still work I think if they copy some aspects of the Goosebumps movie like I mentioned earlier. Dont try to make it a grimdark young adult superhero movie but a goofy horror movie for kids where the kids just happen to get to be their favorite comic book heroes as a method to stopping the monster craze thanks to a genie.

This would be perfect. Base it on American comics like the original, with maybe an extra horror baddy escaping from a very risque ero/ecchi Manga. Then set it up for a sequel to do Shadow Borg, and a finale third movie for metallix.

So they can keep Art Fortunes for the sequel and Metallix. So it's Addams Family meets Power Rangers movie, with a dose of Stranger Things. Let the scariness of the monster house be there, but keep the campiness. And definitely keep Flabber.

Make the first film more about the character building, new powers, accidental escaped bad guys, and the ecchi manga escapee as the main one that needs to have its story finished, with the rest ending on the 'adventure of the fight continues on!' This way we also get some slimy tentacle gross monster stuff and a demigorgon type pawn that won't bow to the badguys, and scares them, and has typical manga monster type powers similar to stranger things in a way. So we can it trying to attack the school the kids are at and some scary scenes like that.

Next movie, Shadowborg. Badguys being deathly afraid of going near Manga ever again, and bring in the white blaster beetleborg as a new kid that moves to town.

Third movie, Metallix and giant robos. With finale that includes the astral borgs.

All new designs. More 'realistic' stylized, but also very comic booky, and up the scary on the monster house and the detail there. So the campiness plays off of them more with the 'don't judge by appearances' aspect. The badguys should be mildly updated too, still look relatively the same mostly scarier and less rubber suit like, but not as gross as the main monster that even scares the bad guys, so we keep some old school comic book campiness with them too.
