It is a bit of a sea change for Gentoku's character. In spite of the show's recent averageness however I am still willing to give this show a chance towards the end, because I suspect that the current part is down to the fact that the writer did not have experience with having to pace a show for 50 episodes while ensuring that enough happened in the story at a rate in which there could be regular merchandise releases. Hence going down the "evil father" route.
I'm surprised they haven't explained where the second Evol Driver came from, if it was made by Sento's father all they would need to do is drop a line to say so, but the fact that the show is willing to raise questions but not even answer them is a bit strange. To be honest, there are some episodes recently that I've been enjoying, but Evolt suddenly deciding he doesn't want to destroy the planet anymore basically seems like an admittance to give the heroes the chance to defeat him. OK, they did explain his reasons... and then decided to retcon the Build driver origins for conflicting reasons. Whoops.
Having said that, I laughed out loud when Sawa dragged a "Miitan" pillow in, as if to pretty much sum up the entire waifu culture and pillow craze in one go. It's not even entirely out of left-field either, anyone remember this from an earlier episode?
I've enjoyed this episode and the last episode, but from week to week this show isn't as compelling as it used to be and I think that's probably due to how much actually happened towards the beginning.
