I don't have any clue how that aspect of the plot is going to play out myself, but what I will say is that, simply based on how HARD this episode wants to rub in that this is it for ol' Kazumin, I think there's a very solid chance he won't actually be coming back.
Although my feelings here might be colored by the fact that I don't really want to see him back. I know this is a bit rich coming from someone who loves Ryuki and Ghost, but something about the gritty war drama aspect of Build makes the idea of bringing back characters who were unambiguously killed a lot less palatable than in a show like Ex-Aid. Like, if merging worlds is an excuse to bring Grease back, does that mean all his buddies would be back with him? Is Gentoku's dad gonna be running the country? Is Sento not actually going to have to bother making peace with his role in all this tragedy? Happy endings are great and all, but I'm not sure one that extreme would make for a more satisfying story in this case.
Mind you, I could be eating my words here in two weeks. Build's been a great show, and if they can convince me having friggin'
Utsumi
be a Rider was a good idea, they can probably pull whatever ending they've got planned off.
That's why it's more likely they'll be back. The deeper the loss, the more triumphant or relief causing the return.
Gentoku's dad may be alive, but he won't be ruling or maybe even in politics. He might be a mabo curry chef. Or anything between from in politics to a school janitor.
Alternate reality doesn't mean they'll all have the same occupations they did.
Grease's friends may still be alive in the alt world too. May even all be friends, but aren't in the military.
Some things will be similar like sometimes a genius character is still a genius in a different reality, but sometimes even that is questionable.
Think of it like "Sliders". An evacuation to an alternate world would be dopplegangers living alongside their alternate selves. If the worlds merge though, the 'quantum signatures of occupying space' might merge. It can go either way.
The problem with world's merging though is that it should carry the bad guy over too. But again, depends on how they do it.
But for a happy ending, I can see them easily having everyone that died back alive as their dopplegangers with little to no memory of their other selves, ending on some kind of nod of similarities but differences leaving the audience wondering.
Multiverse theory does mean alternate versions of everyone may or may not exist depending on where or why the world exists as slightly different from the choices made on that world that weren't made on theirs. Like Stalk and his daughter could both exist over there as a happy family that runs a café.
Speaking of her, I have a feeling she'll be one of those that won't merge because of the alterations to her from Pandora's box. Her, Stalk, and Sento stand out the most in that regard, maybe Banjou too. Though Banjou's lost love may exist over there and could either already be married to his alternate self, or has never met the alternate.
"Sliders" and how that parallel world theory works is the best way to think about it. But do keep in mind, that's traveling to an alternate world, not merging two worlds. So there will be some differences.
