But in all seriousness, seems rather obvious with the design and how it mimics what seems like some form of power conduit likely for the time ship. Which then also fits the aspect of Den-O.

With Toku stuff, that's never a coincidence. So it likely plays a factor in that kind of way. So it is an in-show item, but isn't something quite like Pandora's box where it was the entire plot mcguffin.
