Power Rangers by all means was not a bad film. What made it a financial failure IMO is some of the creative design choices made for the film. The suits looked a little too alien while at the same time trying to resemble suits found in the MCU and DCEU instead of sticking to/closely resembling the spandex Power Rangers is known for (if Spider-Man can wear skin tight suits, why not Power Rangers? Why does everything have to resemble Iron Man? Even Spider-Man isn't completely safe but at least is given an option). Goldar looking like a melted glob of American cheese didn't help. And this was the opportunity to see the fan favorite Dino Megazord/Daizyujin on the big screen in CGI glory. Instead we got whatever that was with a spider-mastodon.
All that was too much of a departure from the source material for people to justify seeing it in theaters. The cast was great, and I wish Hasbro would find a way to include them in the future. But I totally understand wanting to wash their hands of that film. Plus Lionsgate probably owns portions of the creative direction of that film Hasbro could not touch unless they made a film through them; much like how MMPR the Movie is owned by 20th Century Fox (Disney). Now I just hope Hasbro/Paramount's reboot is loosely connected to the TV show and not another MMPR/Zyuranger rehash. Maybe an original story following a new team (original, comic based, or from a Sentai that wasn't adapted) and build up to Shattered Grid.
