One common thing about Kuuga and Hibiki's first twenty-something episodes are that they were done by Shigenori Takatera, an auteur who pretty much became the artsy fartsy kid in Toei ever since Kuuga. Put out great work but not loved by Toei for his excessive spending habits as he was ultimately kicked out of Hibiki pretty much for not raking in dough with toy sales while making a well-shot show about loincloth-wearing mighty morphin oni rangers who literally drum the life out of giant monsters. But Takatera's biggest claim to fame is for... well, see Kuuga episode 2 for that. I shall explain exactly what I mean when you are done watching that episode.
