Wow, I had a lot of catching up to do with this thread since the last time I was here. It seems there are some people who are in disagreement in regards to the severity of the new joint system incorporated in the new SS line. I have had my SS OOO’s since it was released and have been posing it pretty often and have had no qualms with the new joints even when replacing the forearms with the claws out multiple times. For those of you who spent your hard earned $60+ on this figure only to have it break, I am truly sorry that it happened to you and I have had those experiences in the past. But to go to the lengths that I have read in this thread about “increased fragility”, the new joints being a “blunder” and the hysteria that has followed. I think it’s being blown out of proportion and those who want this amazingly beautiful (ok I’m biased because OOO is my favorite rider and this is sooooo much more accurate than the original SH Figures version) but are afraid because of the new joint, I say you should get it, but be careful.
Are the joints more fragile? Inherently so. But considering how others have posted about other elbow/hip joints breaking, or wrist joints snapping, I don’t think it’s as big of an issue as some are making it to be. Increased fragility has been going on since back in the days when figures have 5 points of articulation. As toys evolve, and we add more moving parts for the sake of articulation, of course things would be more fragile.
Through the updates we get, there will be things that work and things that don’t. eg. Kabuto, Dark Kabuto and Gatack’s different wrist joints. Maybe these won’t last either, or maybe they’re the next step in getting figures that we can pose more lifelike. If Bandai were to just keep making things the way they are, and not innovating, we would not have gotten the SS line, with better proportions, better screen accuracy, better articulations, and overall a better albeit pricey figure. Toys would stagnate and other companies would just start to copy them and they wouldn’t stand out as the most advanced, detailed, and articulate figure out on the market.
With how little I’ve actually heard about the joints breaking, I’m surprised at how strong these opinions are. And in response to Taste-Toys’s having “visible” cracks, I am going to have to disagree with you there. It is the lighting that is shining on the new angular joint that makes it look that way. If you have the SS OOO, you would know.
I understand if people are worried that their OOO or future figures will break, and hearing “just be careful” isn’t what you want to hear, but it’s really not as bad as some are making it out to be (except for the ones that broke, which may just be the case of unfortunate QC issues). OOO’s joints are nowhere NEAR as bad as some of the other manufacturers out there with joints not as advanced. And if you honestly cannot fathom ever having a figure with “increased fragility”, I hear Sofubis are extremely sturdy and affordable.
In more recent news. I. AM. SO. HYPED. FOR.
