Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light

This was cool, it felt pretty much like a typical episode of Dyna so I wonder why they didn't just fit it into the season proper. I guess Dyna needed a theatrical release?

I was kinda hoping for a proper Daigo-Asuka team-up but alas, there's always Superior 8. It's still fun to see Dyna and Tiga team-up for the first time regardless. The notion that the "light" of ordinary folks can combine to form Tiga is a nice callback to the Tiga finale as well, so I can't be too mad at that plot workaround.

Only other thing I wanna mention is I really dug the kaiju in this film. Geranda (the flying beast) is kinda meh, but I was a fan of Deathfacer and Queen Monera. The Deathfacer robot looks like a Power Rangers In Space bad guy, and Monera has that classic Showa kaiju look with the flowery head, tentacles, and creepy beehive-style cage.

Ultraman Tiga Gaiden: Revival of the Ancient Giant

This was...also cool? I actually remember watching this as a kid and liking it then but I was also four so what the hell did I know. It's enjoyable filler, but I don't know if it warranted a whole movie.

There's a fun Elseworlds conceit about a prehistoric village under siege by kaiju, and about the ancient legacy of Tiga. I liked that they recast members of GUTS and Super GUTS as various villagers too. But our hero Madoka (Daigo's son) and the other villagers are honestly pretty dry and boring as characters.

Our villains don't fare that much better either. My subs weren't the best, but I gathered they were some sort of evil sorcerers' cult trying to...I don't know destroy the village or whatever? I like the kaiju though! Jomonoid has a nice dinosaur vibe, and I love Dogouf's Dogu clay doll-inspired appearance.

Anyway, I'm about nine episodes deep into Gaia and digging it so until then!
