Power Rangers is an inherently goofy concept beyond the likes of normal sci-fi and comic books because of the very method of its existence: it's taking existing footage from a totally different show from a different country and adding in locally filmed segments to try and hodge-podge a series out of. That will never not be obvious and distracting, as well as severely limiting just what the franchise could ever do.

In this day an age where story structure and integrity are held to a higher standard (even if few media reach that standard) having a show that can't even be wholly original is going to stand out.
