Granted, stuff like limited pre-orders (especially on Kamen Rider toys hahahahaha,) can make this a difficult rule to actually put into practise sometimes, but it works especially well for toys you can get locally or stuff on Mandarake or something. It also makes it really nice when 1-2 weeks later you realise you do still want it, and it makes you even more excited for the thing!

The COVID shipping delays have really made me look at recent purchases. Stuff I ordered 2 months ago, I feel like I don't even want anymore and they are just sitting in a warehouse. That's real bad. Because I remember in the moment of pressing "Buy Now" thinking I could not want this thing more! I've cancelled some of those orders at a loss. Paid in lesson learned.

The other reality check for me was this: About 2 years ago I started making more money than I've ever made in my life. Significant increase in income all around and I did the thing many of us dream of: Bought everything.

I completed all sorts of sets, paid above MSRP for out of print goods (hello CSM belts!), impulse bought rare items, and in the end was I satisfied?

No. Not at all.

There was always something new to chase. A collection I thought was complete would expand to more (for example, all the lead Heisei riders of Kamen Rider Converge, now became Lead + Secondary, and then Tertiary why not? (and now I have Converge Kamen Rider Lazer in bike form and I don't even like it, in fact I hate it).

I don't say all this to spite the toys I love and collect. These things have brought me all kinds of joy even if its just to put on a DX belt and do the henshin for 1 minute before sneakily storing it away for another month. But those toys aren't gonna be there for you when you're heartbroken, need someone to talk to, or had a bad day at work. They aren't going to change your childhood past.

Focus on your life, goals, and dreams. When you can say you've met those, then reward yourself!
