Maybe not when the 2nd or 3rd act kicks in but when they first arrive in the 90's and when the movie is doing the character development phase, I could see them bring their 2020's mindset and apply them and be preachy about it. Or the movie could end up spending a large amount of time highlighting how awesome the supposed lead is just to appease corporate who in turn wants to win points with critics.

In any case, Jonathan Entwistle's previous works have featured moody teenagers who hate the world around them and he has stated in a previous interview that if he were to make a PR movie, it wouldn't deviate from that.
