I think my single favorite moment from the entire OVA is from the second episode, where Jirou is just chilling in that cabin with Rieko and Akira, and he mentions how he used to be so envious of humans for having so many memories and experiences to think back to, whether they're good or bad, and realizes he's got those too now. It's especially weighty because the envying memories thing is a specific conversation he actually had with Mitsuko it's building off of, rather than just something made up in that moment. I definitely don't want to make it sound like the 01 episodes didn't have any good drama in them. There's some really great stuff in there!

But it's also scenes like that, emphasizing how much Jirou has grown, even learning to find value in the very fact that he feels sorrow, that make me a lot more fond of the nice bow the Inazuman crossover puts on everything. Ultimately, though, if all three endings are so hotly debated, I think it's because despite the differences in tone, they're all saying fairly similar things at the end of the day. The 01 ending definitely has a ton of merit, and I get the feeling it's one I'll start appreciating more and more over time, but the Inazuman ending got a much more immediate visceral reaction out of me.
