You know, earlier this year I took up a news writing course in university. I wasn't really too enthusiasitic so I dropped it, but I'll never forgot something they told me:

"If it bleeds, it leads". It's a common saying in the newspaper industry that basically states that anything that bleeds, is dying or is horrendous is immediately front page worthy material.
