The characters can certainly still be well-executed for their purposes, but I also think it's fair for you to be disappointed because it is such a consistent issue, so your feelings on the matter will bubble up again every now and then. Nothing wrong with expressing how you feel with each plot point as they come up! Even if you end up changing your mind later on, I think it's neat to see how your thoughts on the matter vary in real-time.
