From what I’ve heard, it’s because there’s a lot of Geki alumni in the Kiramager staff. (Same producer, same suit actor in Blue, the action director was GekiRed), so they decided “why not?”.

I mean, Gekiranger is just the best, you know? It had a very memorable cast with some great development, arcs that played out in really satisfying ways, a few good twists in the plot here and there, crazy strong theming centering around those sweet martial arts influences, which of course meant tons of stylish action with amazing choreography...
Kind of have to disagree here. Gekiranger has a lot of problems. First of all is the erratic pacing, with the plot kicking into high gear ten episodes too early, meaning that when they get to the usual high gear point, they’re stuck doing a three-episode formula where a tougher monster appears, beats the Gekirangers, they find a new master, who gives the, a new weapon and mecha that outpower the monster that was previously kicking their asses, they’re on top for an episode, before Rio brings out a new warrior who has monsters that are much stronger. And then that plot ends when they get Super Gekiranger, which, as I pointed out in my post on the last episode, is one of my BIGGEST problems with the series, because they use the suitS way too much, and it’s not a very good looking set of suits to begin with.
And then there’s another problem I’ve had pointed out to me: The show‘s plot focuses on the villains too much, to the point where the heroes feel unnecessary. I kind of agree with that, because while the villains are preparing for a final assault on their eternal rivals, the heroes are stuck babysitting an obnoxious kid in a plot that could’ve easily been cut with nothing of value lost. And when that final assault does begin, it’s immediately interrupted with
yet another
pointless filler episode that could’ve easily been cut with nothing lost.
The final arc is a lot better than the rest, but it still has some problems, namely the reveal that Long is behind
EVERYTHING
bad that happened in the series, which just feels like a contrived reason to forgive the bad guys who were so dead set on destroying the city during their tenure. And then it insists Rio has a love for Mele that makes his redeemable, which he has not displayed in any of his scenes alone with her, which consist of him either ignoring or abusing her. Which means the fact he becomes a good guy feels unearned and makes his death more satisfying than tragic. But unfortunately, Long is robbed of getting an equally satisfying death, which is also annoying, since he’s really not a villain that I’d want to see more of.
I don’t hate Gekiranger, despite what this post might indicate. I just think Goseiger did everything it did better.
