I know a bunch of stuff with Ensign Ro was semi-explained by the novels suggesting that, a lot like Earth (or any reasonably sized planet tbf), Bajor doesn't have a homogenous belief system. Similar to the divisions between Christianity, there were a variety of similar but distinct belief systems. The only thing I remember this explicitly covering is the earring, but it can do a bunch of those.

As for the other stuff? The Bajorans stuff wasn't set in stone, and later writers redid it for what worked better for the plot. It's just how things go expanding from one semi-major character in a few episodes to diving into their culture for a syndicated seven series show. It happens.
