Man, I wasn't even considering all those layers, but I really should've known better. I'm definitely most into Tendou when he's being written more as a force of nature that manipulates the events of the story than when he's functioning in a relatively standard hero role. That strange sense of detachment he seems to have, while simultaneously never missing a detail and always having a plan, those are the things that make him such a unique "protagonist", and when the scripts leverage it right (4 is the gold standard for this), it can be a very interesting way to propel the development of the other, less certain characters. There's a sense that it's something that could only happen in this show.
