Honestly, I thought it was pretty easy to connect the dots, so Dread didn't say anything wrong. If you believe that the movie was an overwritten timeline, then considering how Tendo and Hiyori were both alive during the Meteor of 99, when the timeline diverges, their sibling relationship isn't a variable like the oceans.

Maybe the inconsistencies between the show and movie regarding how that scene happens are what make people dissociate. Blame time travel.
