To be fair, these episodes are a lot more fun than that movie is; simply having Tsurugi around helps loads on that front. All he's gotta do is roll up in the woods out of nowhere for one scene to spout a catchphrase and the episode will feel that much more worth it.

So, here's something I forgot about because 38 does absolutely nothing with it: Tsurugi is in Juka's class. He's on this camping trip. I mean, he shouldn't be, for a lot of reasons (he is how old and they are how old), but he's got a purpose to be in those woods at that point in the story. I'm going to assume that he got driven there by Jiiya, since Kagami probably told his best friend that, wouldn't you know it, the bus is all full. (Also, Kagami needs to be the only Rider on the bus for the only good scene to actually work.) Tsurugi was probably near enough to the bus to catch the beginning of the tunnel fight, and decided to help KaGAHmin.

You all probably put that together, but it took me sixteen hours to realize that Tsurugi wasn't just wandering around those woods at a narratively convenient time.
