Feel like from what I get, morally ambiguous or bankrupt (or just some jerk traits too) comic relief characters gets more free pass, and can be a character with almost no hate, like for example Oren in Gaim for the former, and Kuroto in Ex-Aid for the latter. But comic relief characters that doesn't have dark traits (or have annoying traits to audience, but not dark traits, like bumbling loser aspects) are commonly more bashed for their comedic traits like Onari here (who you defend) or Shunpei (who you... bash too here)...
