That's definitely a detail that gets my attention! I think it's clear by now that I have a fondness for ambiguity when it comes to protagonists, so I can imagine this being something I really enjoyed. It does sound like the people behind the show really excelled in making this stuff up on the fly, though I can imagine that must have been a nightmare for anyone trying to keep everything consistent 20 years later.

I never saw Kill la Kill though everyone shouted at me for not having watched it at the time. I have mixed feelings about Gurren Lagann, it felt a lot like Diebuster to me—but it's been so long since I saw either of these shows that maybe my feelings will have changed by now.

I have a soft spot for some dubs, even though I've never been super fond of them as a rule; it's frustrating when it doesn't feel like the people adapting the series are taking it seriously, especially when it's something you care about, so I totally feel you here.

I thought this lead-in was going to be the beginning of an absolute car crash of a fanfic, Sunred! I'm almost disappointed that it's not.
