This is not a good look for Toei if they are trying to make Kamen Rider more popular outside of Asia.
Tropic Thunder is certainly a complicated case as the INTENTION was to lampoon Blackface. However, I don't think that as white people Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., or any of the writers get to decide what is allowed, or right, in that respect. I'm not saying they should never be forgiven, but there needs to be accountability, and the cultural dialogue on this needs to continue so that we can all make better decisions going forward. I think that applies to KR, and other International IP's too.
Like I said previously, there has been at LEAST 1 case of blackface within KR itself, in Wizard, when Beast walks out of an explosion or fire and suddenly is painted black and has an Afro. I didn't stop watching, but i won't stop talking about it when its relevant.
There is an ongoing issue with race relations in japan that will only become more prevalent as their birthrate declines steeply and they become more of a melting pot in order to maintain their economy. This is not news, its been talked about for years, and as a cultural touchstone I think it is important that KR and Sentai take the lead on these issues. I am optimistic, as in Zero-One there were a few plot points that I believe were a commentary on Police Violence against marginalized groups, with the HumaGear filling the role of Real life marginalized groups.
