Also yes, I know I'm a filthy pirate.
As someone with a large external hard drive full of content that would be very difficult to reprocure thanks to a litigious Japanese production studio, let me recommend Backblaze as a very cost-effective backup solution.
I've used it for a few years, and there's no upper-limit on what you can store there. If/when a local drive fails, they can ship you out an external drive with all of that archived content on it.
Worth taking a look at, if you're scared of losing files.
