It's really about the stakes for this story, isn't it? Between Tsukasa not treating Natsumi's imprisonment with any gravity, and all of the Ryuki stuff feeling relatively minor (like, Momoi was murdered, but we don't know much about her until the Time Vent), it's a story that somehow makes the Battle Royale series feel less visceral and consequential than the Romance series that we previously saw a tribute to? Like, Ryuki's dilemma is more of a shrug than Kiva's, and that's not great.

I feel like Ryuki is, more than any other Phase 1 series, really difficult to encapsulate in two episodes. It's a series about how slow and frustrating and confusing and necessary it is to understand other people. When it takes a year, that theme is well-served. When it takes a couple days? Feels like it's not really doing the show justice.
