It was green (well, white because it's a B&W manga) in the manga as well, but if you look at the one pic you can see his darker roots, meaning he's just dyed it in-universe.

Been a while since I read the manga (because it stopped getting fan translations) but personally I think it was done to make him and Shotaro more visually distinct, since in B&W two pretty boys with medium length messy hair can be a bit redundant.

And even if they dont explain it I think it's fine. Heck, even Vegeta was a funky color scheme one time when he debuted in the anime if I recall. I think it was the one where his hair was brownish and his suit was very multicolored?
