To me, this is most evident in the heads. The normal SO-DO figures have to have a little tab behind the head as well as a hole through the top to prevent a choking hazard (Saber didn't have to do this because the heads with the blade was larger than the choking size).

Minipla vs Super Minipla (now known as Sokugan Modeling Project) also has a similar distinction in quality.
