It shows children that two girls in love is a normal thing, something that's okay. And I see nothing wrong with that.

Maybe try "empathy", that's pretty cool. Some LGBTQ-people cannot be confident in themselves like you do, and media can help give them that confidence. It shows them that they are seen, that they are valid. You're right; you don’t need to "kiss up to this stuff". But you don’t need to be a stick-in-the-mud about it either.
