But today, today it is done "wrong" of course. Bullshit, it's just dealing with themes these people are unable or unwilling to be confronted with, since they throw a screaming fit whenever a queer character dares to exist or god forbid, racism is addressed.

I think the reason why people get angry over political stuff in pop culture is that they view it as escapism, and they don't want to be reminded how bad the real world is. I do think many parents raise kids in a bubble and tell them not to worry about the world by playing with their toys. They are stuck with that mindset for so long, they never grow out of it. When I was a kid, I always paid attention to the news because I liked what was going on in the world. I also watch cartoons and play with toys just like any other kid.

Also, people are hypercritical when it comes to "politics" in pop culture. They get mad over stuff dealing with racism, LGBTQ+ issues, etc., but they are okay with pro-police, pro-military/pro-US imperialism and hate towards people of color (Islamic people with darker skin comes to mind) being used.
