I feel Wing's success in America is a major factor, still. Gundam had broken through in damn near every market it touched for 20 years except America somehow, then Wing swooped in and finally generated that buzz.

Also, power scaling is already out the window. I don't know everything about Gundam, but I'm pretty sure you put any of the suits in a room with Turn-A, and after about 10 minutes, you'll have Turn-A, alone, with some dust

Well, with the Western market finally interested in their Gundam games, they'd want to appeal to them by adding some of the breakthrough suits.
Hell, we've even gone so far as to modify games just to put more Wing characters in them (Battle Assault removing Zeta for Wing, then making Battle Assault 2 without Japan just to insert more Wing and G suits come to mind)
