I really got the impression from this episode that the Ark is way more theatrical than we'd considered. It... like, I think it very much wants everyone to know that it's better/stronger/tougher/smarter/etc., more than it actually wants to win. It's a machine that lives entirely off of its hatred for humanity -- it's not looking to eliminate that hatred, so it's also not in a hurry to eliminate humanity. The juice for the Ark is in terrifying humanity.

I hear you, but I feel like Gai being detonated lets him off too easy. The catharsis for the show was never in him being murdered; the catharsis is in Aruto's perspective winning out, or in ZAIA being defeated, or in Gai being disgraced for... well, for being Gai. That dude needs to live a long, unhappy life.
