And by the way, this applies not only to Black. How often does a rider become not an ordinary Japanese guy, but a native from the jungle, who is hit by a big city almost more than monsters? And how often were designs as grotesque as Ten-Faced Demon Gorgos? Nevertheless, the remake just ignored this part for the sake of its own history, so as not to be just a pale copy with cosmetic changes.

All this reads like a lot of whiffling if I'm honest. This doesn't really address what I said beyond "it's different." Like, yeah, but that's not going to change why I don't like it.

I'm sure if I were a fan of the original Amazon I'd have disliked Amazons. Hell, I'm not a fan of Amazon and I disliked Amazons. But Black is one of my favourites, and considering he's a lot of people's favourites, seeing an iteration that bears hardly any resemblance to the character is naturally going to be disappointing. You can justify it all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that the connection just isn't there. One of the Riders is literally black, the other is silver. That is how much is resembles the original series and character.

With Kamen Rider no stranger to total reinvention on a yearly basis, it feels especially cheap that they're cashing in on one series' popularity on a not-even-superficial level. If you weren't going to make the character resemble Black then why make him Black? Why not expand the roster rather than retreading if the retreading serves no purpose?

This eerily reminds me of the 2017 Power Rangers movie. This also feels especially off since we have Shin Kamen Rider which is quite faithful.
