I think it's also partly Touma's fault? For a) a bookseller and b) a novelist, he's not super great at reading a room sometimes. Nothing about Ogami says that he's excited to hear about his own thematic relevance, so maybe treating him like a heroic archetype instead of, y'know, a co-worker was the wrong way to introduce yourself. Just a thought!

I'm actually really glad the show did this particular scene in this way. It's important to get a little more insight into Kento's relationship with Touma (considering it's likely to be a big part of the next episode), and there's no better way to demonstrate the strength of their bond than to have Kento make an emotional appeal to Ogami on Touma's behalf. It's a good use of the gigantic cast!
