For the second point, take things at the rate that makes sense for you, not what makes sense for somebody else. If I had gone at the rate that other people have done things, I wouldn't be on the path that I now am on, which is arguably better. (this comes with no knowledge of your age, but it sounds like you're probably younger than me if only two of your friends have kids almost everybody I went to high school with has kids now.)
