All I'm ever looking for is some sense that the victim involved has some bearing on their fate. The ideal is something like OOO, or the (and I know people hate it) Job War arc on Zero-One. I want to feel like someone's emotionally in the balance here, and their motivation is potentially working in opposition with their salvation. It doesn't have to be the full Drug Abuse storyline of Fourze (or W, your mileage may vary), where someone's turning themself into a monster that the hero team has to defuse, but I definitely need something more than The Book Club Is Turning People Into Monsters.
