Rather I see the scene as Reika finally getting indulge & get something normal for once outside of her duties as a swordswomen. And getting to share it with her brother who argubably is even more sheltered than she is.

And that's a fair interpretation! I think it skews too far into showing them as still unhealthily involved in each other's happiness, but now in a less childlike way to give it nonromantic cover. We all process art differently!

It's not a great look, no. I think the show did well with other female characters -- well, Mei -- but Reika was one that needed some work a lot sooner than this. I'm generally okay with it because this movie (and parts of the show) demonstrate that Ryoga's as messed up as his sister, and neither of them are able to act independently. But it's still not a great look.

No, it's just a post-show thing where a character or organization just shows up out of nowhere, and there's no time in the movie/special to try and weave them in more delicately. Famous clan! Everyone else in it is dead! Let's go!

Ryoga's views on marriage were very fun to explore. He's a real By The Book (sorry) guy, where a result is assured as long as you follow instructions, and anything else will just work itself out somehow. People get married and are happy, so marriage must make people happy, so Reika should get married to be happy. The idea that Marriage and Happiness are a correlation and not a causation is not something he was aware of, and it rocks him to his core. Hilarious! Funny dude!
