Yeah, I've been somewhat vocal about this for the last few years, too. I tend to refer to it as Riders and monsters throwing CGI at each other. It definitely is something that takes me out of it, especially when you get stuff like Buster's sword on Saber, which was obviously made of wobbly foam (weapons that look more like plastic toys than weapons is another one of my common issues).

I don't know if it's the kind of show that's up your alley, but if you want something that has more weighty fights and creative cinematography, I'd recommend checking out Ultraman Z. It's not completely free of these kinds of issues, but it's got some excellent action sequences and may give you what you're not getting from Kamen Rider anymore.

I am so glad you mentioned the plastic thing! Maybe this is just selective memory from me, although maybe not as I am watching Blade as well and I don't notice it there nearly as much, but it feels like really in the last decade or so they literally just use the toys as props in the show and it really adds a general sense of naffness to me.

I know this is a weird hill with toku as everything is rubbery, but there is a difference between a well designed monster suit and flappy cardboard robots (which is why I always struggled with Sentai, because I always thought the mecha stuff was rubbish. They did start updating it a bit when I was last watching regularly but not nearly as much as you would expect).

Maybe that is genius for selling toys or whatever, but it does pull me out of it when they are using very obviously plastic guns, or props where its only painted on one side like a toy or whatever.

I guess in Geats they spent all their money on shooting laser beams at each other, and in some regards it pays off, but I'd happily see you cut the lasers by half and get some props that actually look like they were made for a professional show, and not just like someone grabbed the toys straight off the shelf.

Thanks for the rec on Ultraman Z, always been kind of blindspot of mine, will look it up. Do I need to have seen any other Ultraman stuff?
