The Good
It generally looked nice! (Probably not a good sign I'm leading with this comment.)
I really like the Rabbit Panda. Absolutely ridiculous clown car vehicle.
There were some truly silly moments in this show.
The Bad
I think this show was at odds with itself. Overall I would consider it a comedy oriented tokusatsu, but it also had a substantial share of much more serious episodes and I do not think the two worked together at ALL. If you look at something like Carranger, which is an even more comedic show, it still managed to have more serious moments and episodes that worked with the characters and narrative. The serious and comedy episodes of Taro didn't even feel like they belonged in the same show.
I didn't really enjoy ZAT much. The members didn't stand out and I often found them hard to root for when the team is presented as sort of oblivious and neglectful of their duties at times. Again, another example of how the comedic and serious episodes don't mesh.
The Other
I think this might be the earliest tokusatsu TV show I've seen with strong self-parody elements. Kind of forward thinking in a sense, even if it sometimes felt like it was trying too hard.
I kind of enjoyed it, wouldn't recommend it. Up next: Hoping to wrap up the last couple of episodes of Tomica Hero Rescue Fire soon, along with digging back into the Garo series with Garo Special.
I actually feel like ZAT is one of the more likeable and personable Attack Team members of the Showa era. The only problem is they kept replacing people over time and the actual captain was barely in the show.
