This is a way that I never really saw Akiko until, like, yesterday. (I still think it's maybe overstating things to call her "a strong mediator"; she tends to needlessly escalate a lot of problems in this episode!) I think her buffoonery comes off a little more free-spirited now, and her abrasive attitude with Shotaro is just her treating him as disrespectfully as he treats her. She kind of works for me because she isn't trying to make friends yet?
