It's mentioned, yeah. The very first scene is Yuuko saying her cat was lost yesterday, and both Shotaro and Akiko are like, "Yesterday was lost... yesterday?" It's a very cute scene that helps ease into the slightly confusing setup of the Dopant's abilities.
