If true, I think that exposes the main reason I never liked them: they're designed to be a generic threat, rather than something explicitly designed to work within the main metaphor of the series. They're this amorphous thing that's supposed to fit any premise or setting. They aren't part of the main Fuuto narrative of Double, so them arriving always feels like a bizarre intrusion, instead of a natural escalation. (Ryuube talking about them in Episode 37 has this weird tension of feeling like it belongs in the first five minutes of a non-canonical crossover film, not the final Act of a year-long TV show.)
