I found it emotional at times, and it definitely tried to emphasize the effects of war and those who suffered through it.

One of my friends who I saw it with was concerned about the themes and whether it could be a defense of Japan's military past (similar controversy surrounds Godzilla VS. King Ghidorah), but I think it was more intended to be a self-reflection and definitely a way to critique the Japanese Government during the war years.

It's something I need to see again so that I can pick apart the details even more.
