It's about to get wild, just try and stop this latest instalment of:
Androzani?s Tsukai Detour
(Wait, that seems
familiar somehow
)
And I ended up ?not? getting Fish Sandwich, so instead I?m dedicating to him my review of?
Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger vs Kyoryuger
(Or, Utchy and Prince?s Great Adventure, or Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger 10 Year Anniversary Carnival, feat. King-Ohger)
So I already explained who the main Kyoryuger lineup was back when I reviewed Kyoryuger vs Go-Busters, so here?s a discussion of both who appears here, but not there (along with whoever from King-Ohger wasn?t in VS Donbrothers)
Kyoryugers
:
Ramirez/KyoryuCyan
: In life, Ramirez lived during the Dark Ages 500 years ago. He was called upon by Torin to become KyoryuCyan and partner with Ankydon in order to fight, and eventually destroy, the revived Debo Monster Debo Viruson. Having died in battle, Ramirez lingered on as a spirit which was connected to Ankydon's Zyudenchi. In the present, Ramirez appeared before Torin to present the Kyoryugers with Ankydon at the same time Debo Batissier was attacking. He soon joined the Kyoryugers in their battles as an occasional ally, but with his spirit energy significantly drained, he was forced to pass on Ankydon?s power to Yuko Fukui, as he travels to Deboth Hell to assist Torin in destroying the Debo Spirits within the dimension.
Tessai/KyoryuGray
: He is the Clashing Brave (激突の勇者 Gekitotsu no Yūsha) and was the first Kyoryuger in existence, being active 1500 years ago in China. He was from a martial arts clan that mastered the Iron-Shattering Fist (鉄砕拳 Tessaiken), and has emerged into the present day as a Spirit to teach the Kyoryugers said technique and strengthen their bodies. His signature finishing move is the Furious Bash (激烈突破 Gekiretsu Toppa) technique. He arrived to give an announcement to the Kyoryugers: his partner Bunpachy has awakened and has been waiting for so long to join them. But, he would only let them have Bunpachy on the condition that they become stronger through his trials. He used the power of the Guardians to test the core 5 Kyoryugers (Utsusemimaru did not participate, for he was able to improve himself in battle before Tessai's arrival) and their specialties; Ovirappoo was used to test Ian's marksmanship, Igeranodon was used on Nobuharu to see if his sense of humor gets in the way of his super-strength, Archenolon was used on Souji to test his swordsmanship, and Gurumonite was used on Amy to see if she can concentrate on her kicks. In the end, they all learned from the experience Ian learned to shoot on instinct, Nobuharu learned to focus on the task instead of joking, Souji overcame the gravity field and improved his form, and Amy used the dizziness to perform spinning kicks. Daigo had the hardest trial of all, with every effect the others had individually piled on him all at once. However, the result of the training was a huge disappointment for Tessai as only Daigo could not harm Debo Nagareboshi, even though he completed his trial with almost no effort. After the enemy fled, he regarded the Kyoryugers with pride, explaining that his colour grey has a meaning; the ashen colour of grey is a perfect mixture of black and white (yin and yang), and that the Kyoryugers have now learned this lesson, save for Daigo. Burning in anger, he threw Daigo and aggressively told the others to not help him before performing a Ki attack on him. Tessai then told Torin to remove Daigo from being KyoryuRed and chose Utchy as the new leader. He stated the reason why Daigo cannot win is because he is already strong and does not have a weakness, which is important to have so people can become stronger. When Daigo asked how he is supposed to find his weakness, Tessai simply replied that he did not know or care. Tessai departed, leaving Daigo with his injuries. Daigo was hospitalised, but left even with his injuries. Tessai used this chance to attack Daigo, telling Daigo to meet him in the Twilight Forest if he wants to redeem himself. Daigo accepted and travelled to the forest. Tessai challenges Daigo using a multitude of illusions. Once Daigo and Tessai met face to face, Tessai told Daigo that he is not getting stronger because his fearlessness was holding him back. He made a wager with Daigo; if he can even scratch his "notoriously hard head", then he will release Daigo from the illusions and let him resume his duty as a Kyoryuger. Tessai attacks Daigo with his "Furious Bash", which knocked Daigo into the rivers. A fisherman convinces Daigo to fight by making Daigo realise how foolish his fearlessness truly was. Daigo and Tessai fought head on until it reached the point where they used the same technique against each other, Daigo finally putting a small crack in Tessai's helmet. As per their agreement, Tessai released Daigo. When Kyoryuzin fights Debo Nagareboshi, the fisherman appeared and revealed himself to be Tessai (sporting a bandage where Daigo's attack hit), and transformed into KyoryuGray. He then entrusted the team with Bunpachy, allowing them to form Kyoryuzin Kung-Fu. After Kyoryuzin defeated Nagareboshi, Tessai returned to China, where Ramirez was waiting for him. The two discussed the final two members of the Ten Great Zyudenryu; Plezuon and Bragigas. Tessai said that while Plezuon would be returning very soon, Bragigas would be a challenge, and offers to help in the search. With that, the two departed to find the final Zyudenryu. While replenishing his spirit, he found the author of Love be Ball Touchdown, Shinya Tsukouchi, whom he deduced was his descendant, going by their similar physical appearance. Tessai became upset with him due to him asking Amy to pose as Yuu Aoyagi (Shinya's pen name) to visit a sick fan (who, unbeknownst to any of them, was actually Luckyuro), thinking he was not being honest to his fan. Tessai later appeared to Shinya posing as a ghost, coercing him to visit his fan. While Shinya was on his way, he sees Beautiful Zoreamer attack a woman and stepped in to save her as Tessai, convinced that his descendant's heart is in the right place, manages to regain his Spirit Power. Before the final battle begins, Tessai chose Shinya as his replacement to be KyoryuGray before he and Ramirez left to help Torin in dealing with the Debo Monsters in hell.
Prince/King KyoryuRed
: A teenager from the future who was sent back to the 2020s to awaken his abilities as the ?next generation warrior with the strongest brave?. On the surface Prince is a headstrong opportunist who enjoys doing daring and competitive things but deep down inside he is a curious young man seeking answers to his questions. It is eventually revealed that his real name is Daigoro Kiryu.
Allies:
Shiokara: Yanma?s aide. Sometime before the beginning of the series, Shiokara was a cold-blooded criminal who attacked Yanma after Yanma invented a device that could spot counterfeit money that Shiokara and his gang had created. At this time, Shiokara had no faith in the future of N'Kosopa, believing the kingdom was done for. Meeting Yanma eventually led Shiokara to turn his life around; growing to admire Yanma's personality, he stood by Yanma's side as the latter eventually rose to rebuild N'Kosopa and become its king. Shiokara was still loyal to Yanma after the construction of N'Kosopa, and would blindly follow his orders, even if he knew Yanma may not survive. Shiokara was forced into kingship after Yanma's arrest, however this was fairly short lived, as the King-Ohgers broke out of Gokkan's prison quickly. He is still as loyal as ever, but sometimes now defies Yanma's orders, if it means saving his life, becoming more of a free thinker to help the one he cares about most. Shiokara is a very kind, polite person, to the point he and Yanma can be seen as polar opposites. Shiokara will often apologize on Yanma's behalf, trying to act as a mediator between Yanma and whoever he's offended with his rudeness. Despite this, Shiokara still greatly respects Yanma to the point of idolizing him, to the point that Shiokara is ready to risk his life to prevent the destruction of Yanma's Top Computer, despite being under Hirubiru?s brainwashing at that time.
Sebastian: Hymeno?s seemingly elderly butler, who is actually a man in his mid-twenties. Born Romane Dearborn, of the Duke of Ishabana's thousand-year-old Dearborn family, he was a charming young man with a kind heart, whose looks were beyond dazzling and won the hearts of the people around him, with some even fainting in his presence. Unfortunately, the people's extreme reactions towards his beauty proved too much for him, and he began to see his looks as a sin, as he was unable to be himself in front of others truly. Three years before the start of the series, he was contemplating disfiguring himself when he was stopped by Hymeno herself, who took him in as her butler. He was given the name "Sebastian" and subjected to a makeover to look older, thus freeing him from the burden of his beauty. Sebastian takes his job as Hymeno's butler very seriously, acting with grace and good manners befitting a gentlemanly butler. he even changed his appearance to look older due to Hymeno's desire for him to appear more like a stereotypical butler. Sebastian goes along with Hymeno's excessive self-indulgence because he knows she has good intentions behind it all, but that doesn't stop him from worrying about it occasionally. Post-time skip, Sebastian is shown to have become much more self-indulgent and can be seen overeating on multiple occasions. It is not until Hymeno's return that he is snapped back to his senses, returning to his former self.
Morfonya: The bailiff of Gokkan who serves as Rita?s assistant and heir. She met Rita at law school after being abandoned by her criminal parents when they escaped from jail. Morfonya herself aspires to become the next Supreme Judge of Gokkan to show the world that her past didn't define what her future would be. Although, after God?s Wrath, Rita ended up becoming the new Supreme Judge, replacing Karras Dehaan. Morfonya ended up as Rita's personal aide. While Morfonya generally has a positive demeanor, overall she is a lazy person who'd prefer to slack off rather than do her job. Despite this laziness, she is still quite competent and is a reliable ally to Rita.
Uchuu
: A group of mysterious cosmic beings who exist to create conflicts between lifeforms of the universe to entertain their leaders.
Dagded Dujardin: The Space Bug King who created all insect lifeforms, giving him the ability to control them. He is a cosmic being whose purpose is to destroy planets to maintain order in the universe. However, he grew bored of his duties and decided to make a game out of it, planting seeds of chaos on every world he is meant to destroy and observe the planet's occupants destroying themselves for his amusement. At some point, he found the original Bugnarak planet and made contacts with the citizens. For reasons unknown, they requested his aid, and he responded by bringing one of their dead back as an undead servant, Grodie. He then used Grodie to destroy their planet and turn it into a completely uninhabitable world, prompting the survivors to find another world. Afterwards, his latest "project" would eventually be Chikyu when he noticed a group of humans migrating to it from another planet and came in contact with the surviving Bugnarak race, sending Kamejim and Grodie to force a war between the two races. They successfully convince the Bugnarak to consume large quantity of Shugod souls, forever mutating the race to appear more insect like. At the same time, the Shugoddam king Reiniol Husty was told the Bugnarak were evil conquerors who would bring Chikyu to ruin, prompting him into rallying the other founding kings to waging war on the Bugnarak. Dagded would later make himself known to Reiniol and from that point on, the kings of Shugoddam were forced to follow Dagded's orders to inflict the chaos he thrives on. Dagded made his first appearance in Shugoddam during the reign of Causus Husty, who requested the power to eliminate his enemies. Dagded complied by using his power to magically impregnate Causus' wife with the child that would be born as Gira Husty. Seventeen years before of the main story, having Kamejim and Grodie eliminate Causus upon learning of his betray and conceal their act by causing the God?s Wrath incident, Dagded appeared in front of the humiliated Rcules Husty to appoint him as the new Shugoddam king in time for the prophesied re-appearance of the Bugnarak Empire. Following the coronation of Gira during the final days of the Ohsama Sentai's battle with Naraka King Desnarak VIII, Dagded traveled to Hakabaka afterwards and destroyed Reiniol's spirit on a whim. After helping the revived Deboth Army conquer Earth, Dagded returns to Chikyu to force Gira into renewing the human/Bugnarak conflict. But when the Shuggodam king declares war, Dagded decides to force his way on the rulers by forcing the new Bugnarak king Jeramie Brasieri into taking the blame for Hirubiru Leech's manipulating the rulers' aides into attacking them. But the Ohsama Sentai turn the table by having Dagded confess on live television to clear the Bugnarak of all wrongdoing, only for Dagded to retaliate by teleporting the Ohsama Sentai to Earth while having his Jesters and Rcules take over the planet. Once Rcules was appointed as the new member of Uchu Five Jesters, and revealed Gira's origins to all of Chikyuu, Rcules requested Dagded to give him the power to kill immortal beings, in order to kill Gira. To that point, Rcules had laid traps in the form of Bomb Cushions under the remaining monarchs? (save for Kaguragi) thrones, so that they would not be able to interfere. After much convincing, Dagded agreed on the condition of Rcules personally defeat Gira in Trial by Combat. After Rcules won the third, and final Trial by Combat with the help of Kaguragi, Dagded appeared and as promised, bestowed the Immortal Slayer power to Rcules' Ohgercalibur ZERO. This proved to be the starting point of his demise, as Rcules ended up slashing Dagded instead. Rcules then convinced Gira to defeat Dagded first before anything else. And with that, they both transformed into OhKuwagata Ohger and Kuwagata Ohger respectively to battle the Uchu King. Despite the new power Rcules gained, Dagded was still unfazed and managed to critically injure Rcules with his barrage of energy swords. However, Gira ultimately succeeded in striking Dagded down using Rcules's Ohgercalibur ZERO. Dagded madly cackled as his body explodes into a golden mist, seemingly ending his reign of terror. However, Dagded would have one final trick up his sleeve, as it turned out that he had incubated a spare body within Minongan Moth's husk. Using time manipulation to accelerate his growth, Dagded would be fully revived once Minongan's husk was struck open by the King-Ohgers, allowing him to fully re-emerge in his matured form. Dagded mocked the KingOhgers for their failure in truly killing him before leaving with Minongan. But driven mad by refusing to accept his earlier demise, Dagded decides to freeze Chikyu in a moment of utter despair as an addition to his "collection" of worlds. With most of the member of Five Space Bug Jesters dead except for Kamejim, Dagded ended up visiting the Caucasuskabuto Castle to combat the monarchs directly while they were planning how to defeat him permanently. When he overheard they had 24 hours to finalize their plan, he jokingly remarked to them "What would happen if I decided to attack right now!?" before fighting them. However, since all the Kings had left their King's Proof Items to their aides so that they, alongside with the rest of Chikyu's inhabitants could escape to other planet (referred as Evacuation plan Zero), they lacked the power to overwhelm Dagded, even after using their Ryouga Issen technique. Dagded ended up summoning several meteor showers to grievously damage the King-Ohgers, leaving Gira standing alone due to his immortality. At first, Dagded successfully brought Gira to despair by revealing that he sabotaged the evacuation plan, However, the Chikyu inhabitants, unanimously decided to rebel against their monarchs to end Dagded's eons of tyranny. As they stormed the battlefield, Dagded revived massive amounts of Bugnarak Kaijim to battle the oppositions, turning the battle into pandemonium. However, the Chikyu inhabitants gained massive reinforcements, thanks to Devonica, who temporarily brought back Desnarak VIII, Hymeno's parents, Karras Dehaan, Iroki, Boshimar, and even Reiniol Husty from Hakabaka. The newly arrived reinforcements allowed the Ohsama Sentai to recuperate from their wounds and also destroy the rest of Dagded's revived Kaijim, much to the latter's fury. Left with no other choice after Kamejim's demise at the hands of Desnarak, Dagded turned himself gigantic, growing to be bigger than the size of the universe itself. Gira then asked the Chikyu inhabitants to share their life altogether, thanks to Kofuki cracking the code of the "Immortal Life" replacement from Reiniol Husty's final words. With all the King's proof assembled, a galactic-sized God King-Ohger is formed and soon follows Dagded into his domain for the inevitable final battle. The final battle occurred with Dagded exclaiming that everything in this universe is his own. Only to be rebuked by Gira, who proclaimed that this universe is owned by many tiny lives who inherited its will, passing it through generations to come, and connect their stories forever. Gira also exclaimed that since Dagded is leisurely caging himself within his domain, it's ironically showed how weak and small he actually is. The Shugods ended up resonating with the Kings' wills and automatically attacked the Space Bug King without the King-Ohger controls, sacrificing their bodies to destroy Dagded's domain, ultimately stripping the Space Bug King of his omnipotence and immortality. As the dying Dagded returned to Chikyu, his head crystal shattered. The Ohsama Sentai arrived and delivered the final blow to Dagded's main body. Even with Dagded's final act of resistance, his main body was finally destroyed, killing him permanently.
Kamejim Unka, the Ostentatious: One of the Five Space Bug Jesters, Kamejim was sent to Chikyu 2000 years ago to incite war between humans and Bugnarak by posing as Prime Minister to the latter faction?s rulers and the Shugoddam King?s right hand sword, Boshimar, for the former. After being exposed, with the war ending peacefully, Kamejim was returned to Dagded?s domain, where he was punished for his failure to maintain the conflict by being bound. During Dagded?s subsequent assault on the planet, Kamejim?s major actions included freeing Grodie from the frozen seal he was placed in by Karras de Haan and assuming control of Ishabana using his disguise powers to impersonate Hymeno. Outlasting the other Jesters, Kamejim was sent to wipe out the survivors of Chikyu during their attempted evacuation while Dagded dealt with the Ohsama Sentai. But he was foiled in this, and eventually dragged down to the afterlife by Desnarak VIII. Kamejim is a highly manipulative and cruel individual who instigated the conflict between humans and Bugnarak as part of the Uchu's plan to "tidy up" the universe. Kamejim is highly skilled at deceiving people, not only fooling everyone into believing he was the real Boshimar, but was also merely pretending to be Desnarak VIII's ally. When the combined efforts of Jeramie Brasieri and Gira force Desnarak VIII to see the error of his ways, Kamejim heartlessly murders Desnarak VIII and claims that the very idea of a peaceful resolution makes him sick. Despite his cruelty, Kamejim was legitimately caught off guard when Desnarak VIII revealed his plan to destroy the planet and was against the idea.
Gouma Rosalia, the Shady: A ninja member of the Five Space Bug Jesters, with the abilities to swap anything, be it minds or positions in space. He was placed in charge of Gokkan during the absence of the Ohsama Sentai, but was driven away after Minogan?s failed plot. After this, the 5 Jesters gathered in N?Kosopa, where they fruitlessly attempted to prevent the kings from inserting their new supercomputer which would boost their power output. Due to a post-hypnotic suggestion by Hirubiru, Gouma was unable to escape, and was subsequently slain by the Ohsama Sentai?s new Ryouga Issen power.
Hirubiru Leech the Enticing: A member of the Five Space Bug Jesters with the power to persuade almost anyone to do anything with her voice alone (the exception being Kaguragi, who is such a good liar he deceives himself into believing that he is already under her influence). She took control of N?Kosopa and brainwashed the populace into working to destroy all the computers, in the hope that one of them would be the master computer controlling all of Chikyu?s technology. Once Dagded successfully revived inside of Minongan?s body, he quickly went insane and started punishing the remaining Jesters for their incompetence, since Dagded had died once. Dagded then ordered them to kill all the people on Chikyuu, so that the planet itself could be put inside of his collection. Hirubiru ended up brainwashing everyone in Shugoddam, including the KingOhgers (except for Gira, who was naturally immune to her brainwashing due to his insect side and Kaguragi, who was as deceitful as ever) to battle each other to reach 'The Top'. The country soon falls into anarchy, while all the monarchs except Gira became busy in battling each other for the leadership of the Squadron. In the end, Yanma Gast ended up winning due to already unlocking the power of his own King?s Proof. As an enraged Gira battled Hirubiru, Kaguragi showed up and quickly attacked Hirubiru as well. Kaguragi then prompted Gira to save Yanma first. Hirubiru ended up using her own power to self-persuade herself into becoming Giant Sized, declaring that everyone just needs to die for her. As Gira and the now conscious Yanma summoned King-Ohger, Hirubiru attacked them out of annoyance. However, thanks to Gira and Yanma unlocking their own King?s Proof, all of Hirubiru?s attacks were successfully deflected. Hirubiru turned into a liquid state in order to crush the robot, but Yanma redirected lightning to the robot, paralyzing Hirubiru as well as solidifying her. Ultimately, with a swing of King-Ohger?s sword, imbued with massive amounts of electricity, Hirubiru was finally killed for good.
Minongan Moth the Concealed: An artificial lifeform created by Dagded as an incubator to facilitate his resurrection, were he ever killed, by distorting time. As a side effect, Minongan has no original thoughts, and is essentially an idiot. In the end, he was incinerated by Kaguragi?s King?s Proof, while Rita used theirs to freeze the remains, preventing him from coming back, even with his powers.
Grodie Leucodium the Serene: A primal Bugnarak brought back from the dead by Dagded, and granted eternal life and necromancy powers. Resenting his never-ending existence and how humans were happy with their normal lives, Grodie instigated God?s Wrath, reviving hundreds of locust Shugods to ravage the planet, and using the poison from God Scorpion to taint Toufu?s produce and assassinate the Ishabana ruling couple. He was sealed by Karras de Haan as a punishment for his actions, but was freed by Kamejim and Minongan, who convinced him to follow Dagded by promising him that the planet would be destroyed fully, rather than just a single species. During Dagded?s takeover of Chikyu, Grodie was given control of Toufu, reanimating Iroki as a figurehead while he set to work poisoning the food once more. Eventually once Hymeno learned Grodie?s true nature as an undead monster, she enlisted Jeramie into using the power of his King's Proof to give the jester true life so they could kill him. However, driven mad from being alive again after regaining his memories, Grodie?s power greatly increases as he decides to cause a second God?s Wrath to wipe out everyone. But the Ohsama Sentai made preparations to reduce causalities while averting the calamity, forcing Grodie to personally destroy Chikyu as a giant. However, he was killed off by God King-Ohger. Ending up at Hakabaka after death, Grodie was initially happy to be finally dead and attain a silent world at last. But his joy was short-lived as he is tormented by the ghosts who reside in that realm, denied the silence he wanted forevermore. By the time Kamejim was sent to Hakabaka by Desnarak VIII, Grodie signaled his fellow Jester to remain silent, having already accepted his fate without putting up much resistance.
Now then, I?ll skip the opinion stuff, since I?ve already talked about it, and I intend to recap the Kyoryuger episodes of King-Ohger as we go on. As for staff, this was Ohmori?s swan song at Toei, and while original Kyoryuger director Koichi Sakamoto returned, the writing was instead handled by Toei staff writer Kaori Kaneko (best known for being the head writer for Kamen Rider Saber?s spin off material). So with all of that (admittedly less than the usual fare) stuff said, let?s get on with the review.
We open with Yanma, Hymeno, Rita, Kaguragi and Jeramie, all looking different somehow (did they get haircuts?) held captive by Sanagim (the henchmen of the Bugnarak and the Uchuu, though less willingly in the latter case).
And who should show up to save them? Why, Daigo ?King? Kiryu, in a surprise appearance (He missed out on the Kyoryuger episodes due to Ryo Ryusei?s busy schedule, only appearing as a voiceover).
He then transforms so he can save them properly.
Gaburevolver: Gaburincho: Gabutyra!
Daigo: Kyoryu Change! Fire!
We then see just who captured the Kings? and it?s not who you think.
And aside from the high collar and calling himself the Space Bug King, Gira is wielding the OhgerCaliber ZERO, used by his more villainous ancestors/brother. Which he proceeds to use to transform.
(Note: This version of the transformation phrase substitutes the kanji for skeleton/corpse for the kanji for king armour. So a rough translation of that pun would be ?Skeletal Raiment?, or ?Royal Remains?)
(Note here that Gira?s transformation omits the ?Ohkuwagata? and ?Ohkuwagata-Ohger? parts of the transformation jingle heard in the video, a function that will likely only be included in the upcoming Memorial release.
As Daigo battles evil!Gira (who will henceforth be referred to as Jakkou, for maximum punnage), Utchy watches from the sideline, lamenting that this scenario is this fault.
He then meets up with Yayoi aboard Plezuon, who has prepped to help with that mission.
Plezuon clears the planet as Daigo and Jakkou?s sword slashes generate enough of a background explosion to destroy the entirety of Chikyu (Jesus), and enter a time warp.
We then get a title sequence in which the Kyoryuger narrator asks us how things got this bad, and recapping how King-Ohger and the Kyoryugers previously worked together to defeat Dagded?s Deboth revival. Then he takes us back to the beginning.
Two years ago, Dagded attacked Earth with a new Deboth Army (At least one person I know theorised that he created them, but it?s just as likely Deboth?s butterfly motif let him fall under Dagded?s insect-controlling powers) and unleashed the monster Debo Senking (a play on ?Senki?, Japanese for ?Knight? and ?King?) to steal the Brave of the populace to revive Deboth.
Daigo and Itchy then reprise their one line of dialogue from the featured episode (33, to be precise).
No sooner have they left does Debo Senking succeed in stealing the power from the remaining 4. (And Deboth captured the Zyudenryu, so they can?t recharge that way) But enough re-contextualising old footage, let?s cut to Daigo?s party as they catch up with Dagded.
Unfortunately, all three of them are outmatched, but that doesn?t stop Daigo?s ?just try and stop us? philosophy from kicking in.
In fact, Dagded likes him so much he seals him inside an amber pendant.
Utchy and Yayoi try to free him, but Dagded banishes them through time with a wave of his hand, before leaving to check up on the other Chikyu (as seen in episode 27 of King-Ohger).
Plezuon and its crew emerge on Earth, where Zorima are everywhere and the potato sack chic look is in.
And for added scariness, Utchy discovers his own grave (evidently, no-one would pay for marble, since all he gets is this log).
He gets pulled aside by Amy and a young man, who inform him that Deboth took over in the 20 years since Dagded left.
As for the young man?
Amy reveals that if they can send Prince back in time to before Deboth took over and awaken his great potential, they can avert this horrible future. She then reveals the boy?s parents to be her and Daigo. Utchy picks up on the implications fast.
The pair return to the now repaired and modified for time travel Plezuon, where Yayoi learns just how horrible this future timeline is.
Before they can set a course for the present, Utchy whacks into the console, sending it haywire (get used to this. It?ll be a running gag).
Utchy is then thrown from Plezuon mid-flight. He ends up in another timeline, where the Kyoryugers have different haircuts and colours (At least he didn?t end up in the one where they?re all Americans, New Zealanders or New Zealanders pretending to be Americans. He?d never escape the event horizon of that).
While Yayoi goes looking for Utchy, Prince carries on to 2023 (two years after Deboth reappeared, but whatever), with nothing on his back but clothes and a GaburiCalibur.
He soon comes across Souji as they fight off Zorima attacking members of the Resistance together.
He then gets Souji to train him by passing on a note from Future!Daigo.
Utchy returns to the present a few weeks later (how, I don?t know. There?s no indication Yayoi rescued him), and bares witness as Prince, with the help of some Kings from another planet named Chikyu (Japanese for ?Earth?) awakens his power, restores that of the others and defeats the revived Kabuto Bushin Deboth with the help of another set of powerful animals. (As seen in King-Ohger 33)
Utchy regroups with Prince after Gira?s party leaves (unknowingly taking Gabutyra with them, as revealed in episode 34), only for the latter to start Back-to-the-Future-ing.
Utchy brings him back to Yayoi, who points out that since Daigo is still Dagded?s captive, Prince?s existence is threatened.
They set off for Chikyu? only for Utchy to bang the console, again (How damn sensitive is that thing?)
But this time, things go smoothly and they arrive on Chikyu? 17 years too early, as Rcules is introducing Gira to what will become known as Rainbow Jururira.
As Rcules leaves upon request from Boshimar (a character so insignificant to King-Ohger I didn?t even list him in the characters section), Utchy takes pity on the sad baby Gira and gives him more Rainbow Jururira (where that came from, considering what Gira ate was God Kuwagata?s liquified Shugod Soul, is a question better left unanswered).
But then he gets called back to Plezuon by Yayoi before he can see the kid enjoy his pudding.
As they set off once more into the mists of time, Yayoi isn?t shy about making clear who she blames for their problems.
As Utchy apologises, noting that he?s getting sentimental in his old age, we see the results of Utchy?s brief presence in the wrong place at the wrong time: Gira rapidly ages and transforms into Jakkou, killing Dagded during God?s Wrath to take his place as the Space Bug King (on the plus side, Daigo never gets captured and the Deboth revival never happens).
As a result, the Chikyu the gang returns to is a lot more uninviting. (Seriously, how polluted is the new timeline?s Chikyu to look purple from space?)
As Utchy and Prince disembark, they?re greeted by Jeramie, now wearing a zoot suit and speaking English every third word. (Apparently, this is meant to be a parody of Japanese tour guides, which? sure. It makes about as much sense as the multiple other aspects of Earth culture ending up on Chikyu, despite the founders of their civilisation being Japanese people from biblical times)
Fortunately, he?s still friendly enough to show off what happened to the other Kings in this aberrant reality. Yanma failed to rebuild N?Kosopa and became a shopkeeper, bullied by the rest of the town.
Hymeno?s selfishness got her deposed, leaving her dependent on flowers for income and sustenance. Mostly the latter
Rita snapped from the pressure of being the only judge, jury, executioner and law enforcement on the planet, and became an idol.
Though unlike the other two, they?re enjoying this change of lifestyle.
And Kaguragi was stripped of his title after it became apparent that he was a greedy dirtbag, now working as a jobber of a wrestler for his sister.
And then Utchy breaks us out of Prince?s confusion at this seemingly sudden change by asking what they came here to do.
Thankfully, Jeramie is just as helpful at leading them back to Shugoddam. Unfortunately, the Space Bug King they meet is Jakkou, accompanied by the 5 Space Bug Jesters (for you Rider fans out there, in terms of casting, Gouma and Grodie are Karasuma and Tachibana from Blade, Hirubiru is Kiva-La from Decade, Kamejim is Sieg from Den-O and Megahex from the Gaim/Drive movie and Minongan is the 15 Luminaries from Kamen Rider Ghost. Also, Dagded is Tatsulot from Kiva, but he?s ceased to be a character in this story, so that?s just flavour text).
And unfortunately, Jakkou has been spying on them since they arrived, having captured the former Kings after seeing the newcomers were interested in them.
(Guess Jakkou isn?t a fan of Rita?s music)
Before the villains can kill Utchy and Prince, Minongan starts to feel funny. He promptly barfs Daigo out of another time warp.
His presence is all that?s needed for Prince and Utchy to return to Plezuon and the party to leave the planet.
Daigo explains that he escaped from the pendant when the Ohsama Sentai killed Dagded in the ?correct? timeline. (Seen in both the final episode of King-Ohger and its director?s cut)
Sensing that Prince was in danger, he journeyed to Shugoddam to recruit Gira?s help.
The two transformed and journeyed to Gokkan, locating Minongan?s frozen corpse (left in this state after episode 45), with Daigo breaking the ice for long enough to open a portal to the other timeline. (Let?s hope it wasn?t long enough to revive Minongan, otherwise Gira and co will have to deal with another resurrected Dagded who?ll be even more pissed off and desperate)
Now that everyone?s caught up and introduced, Daigo reveals his plan. First, he returns to the regular timeline and grabs Jeramie?s Venomix Shooter (Which he just? left on his throne. More on that later).
Step two is to send Prince back to a slightly earlier point in history to recover Gabutyra from Shugoddam, and also saving Gira from some Sanagim controlled by Dagded.
He then combines Gabutyra with the Shugods to form King Kyoryuzin, break Dagded?s control over them and defeat some giant Sanagim (all of these events transpired in-show during episode 40).
We then replay Prince?s farewell to Gira from that episode, now with the added poignancy of this movie. (Given Takano was the writer for that episode, one wonders if he was aware enough of what was going on here, or he let Kaneko ghost-write that segment of the episode).
Back in the altered present, Jakkou takes no chances and sentences the deposed kings to death in order to draw the Kyoryugers out (Now we?re back where we started. Another few minutes, and the whole planet will blow up again).
Daigo shows up again. Only this time, he blasts everyone with the Venomix Shooter, downloading the entirety of Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger, plus the movie, into their brains.
This restores the captive Kings? memories and regular clothes. (Though the wiki treats them as separate to the regular versions, I?m not going to be following that tenuous logic here)
And it?s revealed the Venomix Shooter was recovered from the events of the epilogue to episode 50, when Jeramie left it behind when he went to fight a new enemy that had appeared. (I?m half guessing we?ll never find out who that enemy is)
Unfortunately, since the timeline that created him still exists, Jakkou prevails and moves to attack.
A problem quickly mended, once Utchy goes back and knocks himself out as he re-enters with the vat of Rainbow Jururira (that must?ve left Gira scarred for life in some way).
All this does is render Jakkou unable to transform, meaning the other Kings fight him bare-handed.
A problem that resolves itself once they hit him with a combined attack powered by friendship.
Daigo is happy to see that everything worked out in the end.
But unfortunately, Jakkou persists as a separate entity, possessing his armour as the Space Bug King.
Gira counters by transforming to face him.
Gira: Shisho Kourai! (Progenitor Arises)
Ohger Crown: You Are! I Am! We Are The, We Are The, King, King, Ohger! King Kuwagata-Ohger!
Gira: I am the evil king who devours evil. Gira!
And the Jesters do the closest thing they have to a roll call.
Hirubiru: So annoying? I?m ultimate, perfect, complete, I can?t be beaten!
Gouma: My ninja techniques will destroy you.
Kamejim: Worms like you should die in appropriately pathetic ways.
Grodie: Everyone will die, none will be spared!
Minongan: Minongan will clean!
The others quickly join in the transformation fun.
Cue the theme song (which honestly, is more ok than anything. There are better songs on the soundtrack)
We turn our backs on the present and run. There?s no point in living if you don?t go full-force.
Confess and burn up any hesitation you have
The king runs away to the corner of the board. Jump a piece and recover from certain death.
There?s no ?checkmate? here. You must win, rebel children
Drive off the darkness, rise up and fight
Writhe in agony as your pulse goes faster
This isn?t enough! Anything goes, right?
Failures are irritating, but keep going even if you make mistakes
You?re a creature twirling a blade
Destroy, destroy this age! Up to a higher world!
King of Kings!
You will become the king who?ll change everything
King of Kings!
A future full of rapture awaits
Cut off the path of retreat, king who rules over sadness.
It?s alright. It?s alright! You?re King!
Yanma: The Intelligent King, Yanma Gast!
OhgerCaliber: Tombo-Ohger!
Hymeno: The Dazzling Queen!
OhgerCaliber: Kamakiri-Ohger!
Hymeno Ran!
Rita: The Steadfast Ruler!
OhgerCaliber: Papillon-Ohger!
Rita Kaniska!
Kaguragi: The Lord of Abundance!
OhgerCaliber: Hachi-Ohger!
Kaguragi Dybowski!
Jeramie: The Rift King!
Kumonoslayer: Spider Kumonos!
Jeramie Brasieri!
Daigo is saved from being defeated by Sanagim when Prince arrives with Minityra?
Then, thanks to a miracle spanning time, Gabutyra transforms into a variant of the Gaburevolver, the Gabutyrevolver.
Jeramie?s Venomix Shooter likewise changes.
A Kyoryuger insert then question as the others make their appearance, gathered by Yayoi (I guess Daigo expected his plan to restore Gira?s memories to go south enough that they?d need Bakuretsu Kyoryuzin powered by everyone?s Brave to stop Jakkou)
And then they talk about their bond was strong enough that they knew King would need them.
They then proceed with their transformations, with King showing off that Gabutyra?s Zyudenchi has turned gold.
Kyoryuger equipment: Gaburincho: Parasagun/Stegotchi/Zakutor/Dricera/Pteragordon/Plezuon/
Kyoryugers: Kyoryu Change! Fire!
King GaburiCaliber: You are the king! You are the king! You are the king! King KyoryuRed!
Daigo also gains additional armour thanks to the Gabutyrevolver, accessing an Anniversary form.
Cue the Kyoryuger theme song for the first time in a VS movie.
We are the invincible
superstars
.
Fiery spirits give me a
full
charge
Take control of those legends.
Wonderful
!
No one can shut up the
brave
. Always be a
challenger
!
Just where can true strength be found?
Instead of searching around the world
Look in your heart (Let's do it!)
Gaburincho! Go really wild! Let?s do it today too! (
Fire
!)
Let's Go, Kyoryuger!
Beat them up! Keep going! Bite everywhere!
No one can stop you!
You?ll be really surprised when you hear
Zyuden Sentai, VAMOLA! Kyoryuger (Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow)
Brave In!
Daigo: You?ll be surprised when you hear! The Fanged Brave, KyoryuRed!
Prince: The Pincer Brave, King KyoryuRed!
Ian: The Bullet Brave, KyoryuBlack!
Nossan: The Armoured Brave, KyoryuBlue!
Souji: The Slashing Brave, KyoryuGreen!
Amy: The Horned Brave, KyoryuPink!
Utchy: The Thundering Brave, KyoryuGold!
Yayoi: The Oceanic Brave, KyoryuViolet!
All: The strongest braves in history!
Daigo: Zyuden Sentai?
All: Kyoryuger!
After a brief scuffle with Jakkou, Daigo pulls out the Zyudenchi for Zyudenryu 24 and 25: Quetzlcross and Mosasouls (What do you mean, there were different Zyudenchi with those numbers? The original series only went up to 23), to upgrade into Anniversary Carnival.
The other Kyoryugers (sans Yayoi, who lacks one) assume their Armed On forms.
Jeramie then takes his new toy for a spin.
Gaburimix Shooter: Gaburimix! Mucho! King-Ohger Carnival!
The result? Everyone gets the Carnival part for their Kyoryuger counterparts (while Gira gets Daigo?s Double Armed On form and a uniquely painted helmet)
And so the fight breaks out, with Yayoi, Amy and Rita doing the obligatory girl fight with Hirubiru, the Blues confronting Kamejim, the Blacks facing Minongan, Jeramie and Utchy finishing Gouma with a Gaburimix Finisher/Raiden Zankou double team and Hymeno and Souji fighting Grodie, all the Jesters die quickly. Well, all except Grodie.
As if on cue, Torin appears, having risen from the dead and travelled through time precisely for this purpose.
GigaGaburevolver: Gigagaburincho! Bragigas!
Torin: Kyoryu Change! Fire!
But he?s not alone, as two more newcomers to this VS Movie lark make their appearances in a similar fashion.
Ramirez: The Steel Brave, KyoryuCyan!
Tessai: The Clashing Brave, KyoryuGray!
Torin: The Radiant Brave, KyoryuSilver!
After Souji returns his mentor?s Feather Edge sword to its original owner, the three Spirit Rangers finish off Grodie by combining their attacks. (While unnamed in the picture, Ramirez?s is ?Ankydon Hammer?)
And with the three Reds fighting Jakkou, Daigo and Prince combine their respective transformation items into the King Gabutyra Cannon (the DX King GaburiCaliber can?t do this, but the upcoming Memorial version can).
With Gira manifesting Kentrospiker, they combine their attacks against Jakkou, vanquishing him for good.
Wih the dust settled, Prince and Gira set up the King-Ohger In Space TTFC special (It?s all fun and games until Prince has to kill Gira to eradicate the evil threatening the universe).
And we get our King-Ohger/Kyoryuger ED, Pride and Brave, which mercifully, only has one verse in the short version, meaning I get to finish this in less words.
Look up! Our prides are resonating with each other?s
This newly born bravery
Believing in hope both given and received and grasping each other?s hands
This
melody
we sing rings out
Spin a
Pride and Brave
for the world
And in a post credits scene, Utchy returns Prince to his own era, meeting his father (who seems to have aged remarkably well).
And we end on Utchy running off to fix whatever mistake he made this time (Though something tells me Yayoi will be less willing to help him with this).
Final thoughts: Definitely a better experience than VS Donbrothers. It felt like a good amalgam of all the best parts of both shows, complete with a chilling look at what if Gira was an actual evil king, rather than just calling himself one for show. It also builds upon the elements established in the show’s Kyoryuger crossovers to create a more compelling narrative than most recent VS movies had (And I liked most of those). The only complaint I might have is the run-time, but given the double bill, it’s somewhat understandable.
