It does seem to be common among normal people, to only want to care about something that they resonate with or can relate to, like perhaps how often people only want to acknowledge characters if they relate, and think those that they don't understand are bad writing or such. True, but dunno if Granutes would resist germs easier than humans or if it's similarly as harmful as them. Humans wouldn't be able to actually eat or digest rocks well, AFAIK.
